Review: Maryellen’s Classroom Set

So as you may have known from my last post, I went to the American Girl Store with some of my grandparents and purchased Maryellen Larkin. Today I am reviewing Maryellen’s Classroom Set. My grandpa was super amazing after I bought my doll and surprised me with the set. The reason behind these two purchases was that I wanted to have a special memory of how giving and amazing my grandparents were that day and what better than the doll from my grandma’s generation. My grandpa got Maryellen’s Classroom Set because my grandma was a teacher for a long time. He liked the pointer in the set. My parents said, while looking back at photos from that day, that my smile was huge in every picture.

The box is a tad taller than the doll, which comes in handy if you want to craft something for your doll such as a bed. I like, however, keeping the boxes to store items in when I put them away.

The easel is made out of a hard plastic. It is grey and dark green.

On one side of the chalkboard included there is cursive letters. This connects to the story because Maryellen has trouble making the curved letters, so her teacher makes her practice during lunch. The chalkboard is not functional (like to write on with chalk).

The other side of the chalkboard is blank.

Also included are ABC flashcards. These are the pages Maryellen makes with her Italian friend to help her learn English. All of the letters of the alphabet are included with a picture.

Here is the map, Maryellen can use this to practice for the Geography Bee the teacher puts on in Maryellen’s class.

The map attaches to the easel.

The map is reversible to show some other countries Maryellen may need to name.

The long tan pointer is really cool! It has a white cap part at the top. A cool thing about this piece is that the doll can actually hold it!

Now Maryellen points to where her story takes place, Florida.

In conclusion, I think this set coordinates great with her story (I highly recommend reading it if you haven’t already). My younger sister and I enjoy playing doll school, so this set is really cool! I like how the map attaches to the easel.

Let your dolls inspire your creativity!

Great review! I’m glad the easel is plastic – the ones I have from AG’s craft kits are cardboard and one of them broke. They probably made those out of cardboard because they had to be small and it’s kinda more craft-ish that way… I don’t know XD

American Girl thinks of everything. Who ever AG has working in their Think Tank does a great job.
